Writing and Marketing Your Hard Stories
Life is full of love and loss, but what do you do when God calls you to write your hard story?
When Kim Sorrelle's husband passed away from cancer, she went on a journey of discovering the true meaning of love, spending most of her time in Haiti. She joins me on the podcast to share what she learned that led her to write her newest book, Love Is: a year-long experiment of living out 1 Corinthians 13.

Kim dedicated each month of her year-long journey to exploring a different aspect of love, such as patience and kindness. Her experiences and the stories she gathered form the essence of her book, offering readers a heartfelt exploration of love's many dimensions.
Kim's Target Reader and the Writing Process
Kim's primary readers are Christian women aged 25-65, though her book's themes resonate universally. She encourages people to understand and encapsulate love in their lives through stories and lived experiences.
Don't miss out on the therapeutic nature of writing. Kim wrote her first book, Cry Until You Laugh, while battling breast cancer. Writing has the power to heal and connect.
“Writing is such great therapy… you can't pay a therapist enough to get the kind of therapy that you get out of putting your life down on paper.”

What's working to market her books
Kim recognized the importance of building an audience and the reality that an author's work doesn’t end with the publication of their book.
Through her own experience with traditional publishing and self-marketing, she emphasizes the need for authors to actively promote their books.
Kim recommends declaring your identity as an author from the beginning and involve your audience in the writing journey.
One of her most effective strategies has been guesting on podcasts, leading to further opportunities, such as hosting her own show with evergreen content on YouTube.
If you're like me and fear getting in front of the camera, Kim says to remember:
“You are beautiful. You are one of a kind… There’s never been anybody exactly like you.”

Kim says to embrace your uniqueness. Whether high-energy or calm, embracing authenticity on camera can help you relay your message effectively.
